Annual inflation dropped for the third consecutive month in January to 1.06 percent, a new all-time low since at least 1990, official INS data showed Wednesday.
Romanian consumer prices rose 0.85 percent, with food and non-food prices rising each by 0.9 percent on the month in January. Service prices advanced 0.7 percent, the statistics institute INS said.
Romanians paid by 6.4 percent more for fresh and canned vegetables in January compared with the previous, while fresh fruit prices increased 3.1 percent. Tobacco and cigarette prices rose 3 percent on the month, while fuel prices were up 1.1%, INS reports.
Romania’s harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, inched up 3.6 percent at the end of January, from 3.2 percent the month before.
