The Competition Council will open this year 20 new investigations and estimates it will apply fines worth EUR 20 million, with comparable targets as last year, said Bogdan Chiritoiu, president of the institution, quoted by Mediafax.
“Last year we opened 20 new investigations and applied fines of EUR 20 million. For this year, we wish to maintain along the same line as far as the level of the fines and the number of open investigations. We aim to open around 20 new cases a year and we will be completing major cases this year,” said Chiritoiu.
The Competition Council president said there are various ongoing investigations regarding cartels and agreements between competing companies. Some of the cases that will be completed this year refer to the media market, false tenders and food trade.
“In the case of the false tenders, the collaboration with the Prosecutor’s Office is very important. We already have cases that have been sent there, but I think we will have also other cases as a result of this collaboration,” said Chiritoiu.
