CEZ, the Czech utility firm, has announced on Tuesday changes in the local management team.

Martin Zmelik (left) was named the new country management and president of the boards at CEZ Romania and CEZ Distributie. He is replacing Jan Veskrna, who has spent nine years at the helm of local operations.

Zmelik has started working for CEZ Group in 2005 as director of international operations. He came to Romania in 2010 and has worked as operations director of CEZ Group. During his tenure, the company completed a wind farm in Dobrogea and overhauled a network of small-hydro plants in southwestern Romania.

He is a graduate of the Management Faculty within the University of Economics in Prague and holds an MBA from the US Business School.

The company has also appointed Doina Vornicu (center) as the group’s operations director. She is the first Romanian manager to hold the second most important strategic position at the group level. She has previously worked for five years as executive director and member of the directorate at CEZ Distributie.

She has worked for over 28 years in the energy sector, holding positions in various fields including marketing, audit and distribution of electricity.

Vornicu will be replaced by Ion Dobrescu (right), who was promoted from the role of director of strategy and development department of CEZ Distributie.

Dobrescu has started working for the utility firm in 2007 as deputy director of CEZ Distributie and director of the exploitation and maintenance department.
