Car sales up 13.9 pct, market services up 7.5 pct in May y-o-y in Romania

Automobile sales and market services in Romania have registered growth in May, year on year, both in gross series and adjusted series by number of working days and seasonality, shows a press release by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

 

In May 2015, year on year, the turnover of trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles increased in gross series by 11.4 percent and adjusted series by 13.9 percent. The turnover for the services provided to the population increased as gross series by 7.2 percent and as adjusted series by 7.5 percent.

In the case of automobile sales, the gross series increase was due to boosts in the trade with motor vehicles (up 26.4 percentile), trade with motorcycles and spare parts (up 9.6 percent) and maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (up 4.7 percent). Decreases were registered in trades with motor vehicle parts and accessories (down 4.3 percent).

Market services have shown an increase in gross series mainly due to hairdressing and other beauty activities (up 18.8 percentile), activities of travel agencies and tour operators (up 15.5 percent), activities of gambling and other recreation activities (up 9.9 percent) and hotels and restaurants (up 4.2 percent). Cleaning and dyeing of furs and textiles decreased by 4.6 percent.

Compared to the previous month, in May 2015 the turnover of trade in motor vehicles increased both as gross series (4 percent) and as adjusted series (5.1 percent). Turnover for services provided to the population increased as gross series by 4.7 percent but decreased as adjusted series by 1.3 percent.

The increase in unadjusted series for automobile sales was a result of increments in the trade with automotives (up 6 percent), trade of parts and accessories for motor vehicles (up 3.3 percent) and trade with motorcycles and spare parts (up 2.7 percent). Decreases were registered for maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (down 2.7 percent).

In terms of services provided to the population, the increase in gross series came from rises in the activities of hotels and restaurants (up 11.2 percentile), cleaning and dyeing of textiles and fur (up 2.8 percent) and activities of travel agencies and tour operators (up 1.1 percent). Decreases were recorded in gambling and other recreational activities (down 4.1 percent) and hairdressing and other beauty activities (down 1 percent).

Year on year, during the first five months of 2015 turnover volume of automobile sales increased as gross series by 7.3 percent due to boosts in the trade with motor vehicles (up 17.3 percent), maintenance and repair of motor vehicles (up 6.5 percent ) and the trade with motorcycles (up 5 percent). Decreases were recorded from trade activities with motor vehicle parts and accessories (down 4 percent). As adjusted series, it showed a growth of 8.1 percent.

The turnover for the services provided to the population also increased as gross series by 3.8 percent determined by raises in activities of travel agencies and tour operators (up 13.6 percentile), hairdressing and other beauty activities (up 12.7 percent), gambling and other recreational activities (up 6.2 percent) and activities of hotels and restaurants (up 0.3 percent). Decreases were recorded in activities of washing, cleaning and dyeing textiles and fur (down 3.8 percent). Adjusted series of market services turnover showed an increase of 3.5 percent during the first five months of 2015, year on year.
