The Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled that businessman Dan Adamescu, owner of the Romania Libera daily, should be sentenced to four years and four months in prison in the corruption file in which he is being investigated, according to Mediafax newswire.
In addition, Adamescu is forbidden from carrying out several activities for three years. He will no longer have the right to be the manager or administrator of a company or coordinate companies in Romania or abroad.
Adamescu is accused of paying EUR 20,000 in bribes to judges so that they would pass favorable decisions in two insolvency files.
On June 24, 2014, the National Anti-corruption Direction (DNA) prosecuted Adamescu, as well as judges Mircea Moldovan, Ion Stanciu, Elena Rovenţa and Sorin Viziru from the Bucharest Court and businessman Iosif Armas in this file.
Judge Moldovan received the harshest penalty in the file. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison for interventions in insolvency files.
Elena Roventa was sentenced to five years and ten months, Sorin Viziru was sentenced to five years and Ion Stanciu to three years and eight months, according to Mediafax.
The sentence is not yet final and can be appealed against.
