The new Bucharest National Theatre was inaugurated on Monday, November 10, after an investment of almost EUR 60 million, with the money coming from the Council of Europe Development Bank and the Romanian government. According to the official documents, the renovations were originally meant to be finished by June 2013, but these were finished these days. The first performance which will be held in the new Main Hall will be a show signed by Dan Puric. From the Main Hall, the constructors have taken down the official lodge, ordered by dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

The most urgent problem that had the old building of the National Theatre was the danger in case of an earthquake. The previous façade weighted 1.400 tones and was sustained by the Intercontinental Hotel parking space in a proportion of 70 percent. Ion Caramitru, the director of the edifice, explained that an earthquake similar to that from 1977 could have ruined the theatre, notes Mediafax news wire.
