The fifth edition for Bucharest Biennale (BB5), an event promoting awareness and dissemination of culture, opens today. The main exhibition is curated by Anne Barlow (UK/USA), executive director of Art in General, New York, with the theme “Tactics for the here and now”.
The Biennale is trying to build a strong partnership between Bucharest, seen as more than a city, and rather as a symbol of how politics reflect in every aspect of life, and Western Europe. It links to an universal problem, regardless of the geographical or historical context: that of resistance in daily life, of details and living as a way of living. BB5 is a structure able to transform the City itself into an ongoing workshop-cum-field of action.
The exhibition is installed in seven venues in Bucharest, and a considerable part of the exhibited works was created especially for this event. You can find the exhibits at PAVILION (Info Point of Bucharest Biennale), Casa Presei Libere/ The House of the Free Press, The Institute for Political Research, ALERT STUDIO, MAKE A POINT, Nana Restaurant and CINEMA UNION.
For this occasion over 200 journalists, curators and international theoreticians have announced their presence in the capital of Romania, transforming Bucharest into the hot spot of contemporary art.
Bucharest Biennale 5 is dedicated to the memory of the artist Ioana Nemeș (1979-2011). You can find more information about this event here.
