“Focus: Bucharest. A transforming city” is an urban workshop organized by Odaia Creativă Association and the London School of Economics and Political Science, highlighting the experience of Bucharest as an analysis lab for urban development processes in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The CEE states are a particular case for urban planning, due to their experience of moving from a centralized planning system, promoting large scale urban development, to a more liberal and permissive approach towards the private sector.
The event will bring together students of the Master Programme in Regional and Urban Planning at the London School of Economics and Political Science with students of the Faculty of Urban Planning in Bucharest, through an array of methods including guided tours, panel discussions, urban investigation and working groups. Building on the experience of experts, organisations and public authorities in Romania, the workshop will propose recommendations for urban development policies, ranging from economic competitiveness and central business district development to participatory planning, preserving heritage and developing social capital, taking into account the specific context of Bucharest.
The event takes place between March 24-28 and includes topics like perspectives on the Bucharest metropolitan area, participation in urban planning and neighbourhood development, competitiveness and economic restructuring, inner city development as well as guided tours through Bucharest.
