Andrew Highcock, president of Ursus Breweries, has been elected president of the Brewers of Romania Association, starting this month. He is replacing Hezy Ovadia, president of URBB – Tuborg Romania, who held the position over the past two years.
Prior coming to Romania, Highcock was the CEO of Pivovary Topvar, a company part of the SABMiller group in Slovakia, for two years. Before joining SABMiller, he served as president and CEO for Canada and Southern Europe at Maxxium Worldwide, an international spirits company with a portfolio of brands that includes Absolut Vodka and Remy Martin. Highcock previously he worked for Diageo in France, Britain and Central Europe, holding various positions in the sales and marketing departments and general management.
The Brewers of Romania Association was established in 2004 and its five members – Bergenbier, Heineken Romania, Romaqua Group, United Romanian Breweries and Ursus Breweries – account for over 90 percent of the beer sold in Romania.
As of 2008, the organization is a member of the Brewers of Europe Association.
