The sixth edition of the Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival BIEFF will bring together award-winning movies such as Aleksandr Sokurov’s Francofonia or a variety of short films distinguished at the Berlinale 2016, Cannes 2015 or Venice 2015 festivals, according to a press release from BIEFF.

Sokurov’s Francofonia, named best European film at the Venice International Film Festival and depicting the story of the Louvre museum throughout the Nazi occupation in France, will have its preview screening during the opening of the sixth BIEFF edition. Thus, viewers will be able to watch it on Monday, March 14, starting at 8pm, at CinemaPRO. The movie will premiere during TIFF 2016.

Reuniting award-winning movies from the Berlinale 2016, Cannes 2015 and Venice 2015 festivals, the Golden Shorts program includes Batrachian’s Blend, Waves ’98, Kung Fury, Rate Me, To Be and to Come Back, and Belladona. It premieres in Romania on Saturday, March 19, starting at 8pm, at the Opera and Multimedia Studio of the Bucharest Music University.

Together with this screening of shorts, BIEFF will also be running the Danger is My Business program, a “cinematographic roller-coaster”, where movies such as Fabian Kaiser’s The Breath, Tom Rosenberg’s Nothing Human, Paul Wenninger’s Uncanny Valley, or Zia Anger’s I Remember Nothing is meant to take watchers “through a movie experience full of adrenaline, about humans as the only species capable of deliberately placing themselves in extreme situations and turning them into existential leaps,” according to the BIEFF press release.

Also during the festival, four movies that “juggle the particularities of our different socio-cultural practices” will be brought together under the Urban Rituals program, according to the BIEFF press release. The movies are Mara Trifu’s Perfection Is Forever, Douwe Dijkstra’s Supporting Film, Scott Cumming’s Buffalo Juggalos and Esteban Arrangoiz’s The Diver.

In collaboration with MUBI, online video on demand platform, BIEFF 2016 will offer a series of movies and authors significant for the history of experimental cinema, which will be available for viewing online for MUBI subscribers for a month, starting March 7.

The sixth BIEFF edition will take place between March 14-20 at the Peasant Museum Cinema, Elvira Popescu Cinema and the National Music University.
