Between July 8 and August 31 the foyer of the Romanian Peasant Museum (MTR) will host a photo exposition documenting the Basarabia German settlements (1814 – 1940). The exposition is organized by the German Embassy in Romania in partnership with MTR.
Starting with 2010, the exhibition has been present in several cities in South East Europe, in Moldova, Ukraine and Romania: among others, in Chisinau, Odessa, Chernovtsy, in Sibiu and Galati. German cities have also hosted the exposition, among which Munich, Stuttgart, Hanover, Ulm, Bonn, Dusseldorf and Berlin. In 2013 it reached the United States, where many Germans from Basarabia migrated after 1870.
The exhibition will be on display in the foyer, until August 31, 2015, Tuesday to Sunday, between 10:00 and 18:00. Admission is free.
After the exposition, the museum has also prepared a screening of a documentary called “The Danube exodus”, directed by Péter Forgásc.
The film, internationally awarded, is based on documentary material on the transport of refugee Jews to Palestine and repatriated German settlers to Semlin / Zemun camp near Belgrade between 1939-1940.
