Balkanik Festival celebrates the great Romanian singer Maria Tanase

The third edition of Balkanik Festival will take place from September 13 to 15 in Uranus Garden and the participants will pay tribute to the memory of Maria Tanase, whose 100th birthday anniversary is celebrated and 50th death anniversary is commemorated.

Based on the songs of Maria Tanase, Alexander Balanescu created new compositions in the famous album Maria T, filtering Eastern European spirit of the original songs with the experience of the westerns. The recital is accompanied by visuals from the film archives of Maria Tanase, created by Klaus Obermaier, a dedicated media-artist and choreographer.

Alexander Balanescu is regarded as one of the most visionary contemporary violinists, but also as a prolific composer. Born and brought up in Bucharest, he attended famous music schools in Jerusalem, New York and London, where he settled and where he makes recordings with the Mute Records.

Kal from Serbia, the Ciocarlia brass band from Zece Prajini, the Taraf de Haďdouks from Clejani, Kottarashky & The Rain Dogs from Bulgaria and Mitsoura from Hungary will also be part of the above-mentioned festival. By September 5, subscriptions can be purchased with 25% discount, RON 98. The price of a day ticket is RON 50.
