ASF president, Dan Radu Rusanu, is investigated by the National Direction for Anti-corruption (DNA) for constituting a criminal group and complicity to abuse of office. The institution suspects Rusanu for operating from behind the scenes to influence government decisions in the interest of SC Carpatica.

“Between May – June 2013, suspects Carabulea Ilie, Mirzac Marian, Mustatea Radu along with other individuals constituted a criminal group in order to protect through illegal means the financial interests of SC Carpatica SA. In light of investigations conducted up until this point, we’ve uncovered other interventions which are subject to penal punishment”, according to a DNA press release.

The prosecutors showed that there are several clues according to which at the end of december 2013, Dan Radu Rusanu “exerted pressure”, as president of the Financial Surveillance Authority, over several insurers . Rusanu’s objective, which he achieved, was to place Radu Mustatea at the head of the Office of Car Insurers in Romania (BAAR).

“Also, knowing that Mirzac Marian protected SC Carpatica Asig SA, Dan Radu Rusanu attempted to remove Tudor Daniel George from the ASF Council in order to replace him with Mirzac Marian. In this manner, the president of the authority accepted the responsibility of protecting through criminal means the interests of SC Carpatica Asig SA”, according to the DNA.
