The Grigore Antipa National Museum of Natural History in Bucharest opened an exhibition of live tropical butterfly exhibition on Sunday. The rare ‘Butterfly World’ event will stage exotic species from southeastern Asia, Central and South America, and equatorial Africa until the end of August.

Some of the specimens have a wing-span of almost 14-15 centimeters but despite their uniqueness, all the species presented in the exhibit are widely distributed in their geographical areas and they aren’t in any danger of extinction.

All the specimens are bred from caterpillars in specialized farms in the Philippines, Costa Rica, Thailand, Indonesia, Uganda, Kenya, a.s.o.

The opening hours are 10 a.m. — 8 p.m Tuesday to Sunday, until August 31; the entrance ticket price is 10 lei (less than 2.5 euros) for children and seniors, and 12 lei for grown-ups. Entrance is free for children under 2 years of age.
