ANCOM to spend EUR 1 mln on monitoring system for telecom equipment

Newsroom 10/09/2014 | 18:09

ANCOM is interested in acquiring a monitoring system to check if telecom and radio equipment uphold electrical field legal standards. The contract is valued at EUR 1 million.

“The long-term monitoring system for electrical field values was designed to collect and evaluate in real time information regarding electrical fields generated by radio-communication equipment currently in use in certain areas of interest. Furthermore, the system will allow the authority to observe more closely the eligibility of electrical field intensity generated by radio/TV, GSM, UMTS, WIFi, WI Max equipment and power lines”, according to ANCOM.

The system will include 50 monitoring stations equipped with a solar panel, an internal battery and modems. The stations will be set up in urban areas and they will upload information in real time on a web platform, available to the public.

If the stations pick up values over the legal maximum limit, the authority will be notified and its specialists will be able to make a timely intervention to remedy the situation. Testing is scheduled to start in the first part of 2015.

Offers will be accepted until November 3. Willing participants will be required to supply equipment, software and maintenance.
