France’s Alstom, the engineering group, plans to hire up to 50 IT engineers in the next three years, as part of a wider strategy designed to develop local operations into a specialized export center for the power and transport markets in Eastern Europe, said on Wednesday Gilbert Porcherot, president of Alstom Romania.

Alstom has been operating in Romania for over two decades and employs 1,050 people. The company operates through four legal entities in transport, infrastructure, grids and manufacturing of energy equipments.

“We have 45 engineers specialized in high level IT specialists that work in Network Management Solutions. Romania is a strategic solution for our group (…) There are also times that bring new opportunities, which we are already developing into Romania to turn this area into a regional technology hub for Central and Eastern Europe,” said Porcherot (in picture).

At present, the company is working on eight projects in Romania, including upgrade works on the Craiova and Rovinari thermal plants and the rolling stock maintenance contract with Metrorex, the operator of the Bucharest metro network, which runs through to 2019.
