Alba Iulia becomes first Romanian city to launch online welcome pack for tourists

After in 2010 Alba Iulia became the first Romanian city to launch a tourist brand, the local authorities are now launching the English version of its travel blog, viziteazaalbaiulia.ro. The new website, visitalbaiulia.com, will become a tool dedicated to help foreign tourists discover the central points of attraction by offering them a “Top 5” page, a public transportation map and even facilitate deals with Booking.com and TripAdvisor applications.

To further expand online coverage, the city will have dedicated Facebook and Twitter accounts and a mobile application available on Android and iOS. The app will offer tourists a map of main attraction points and GPS orientation and will also be available at info points in the city.

“The decision to invest constantly in such tools comes from the fact that the number of foreign visitors is increasing. The whole Historical Centre has been rebuilt, the citadel has been restored, but we also focused on adjacent interest points, like the Dendrology Park and the Mammoth bicycle lane, which is unique in Romania”, says mayor Mircea Hava.

Investments to restore and renovate focus points across the city have totalled up to EUR 150 million from European funding, creating 1,500 new work places and bringing the unemployment rate down to 4 per cent.
