Former prime-minister Adrian Nastase, who was sentenced to two years in prison in the Quality Trophy file, was brought in at the Bucharest Court of Appeal this morning.

The Court was supposed to rule on the appeal filed by Nastase’s lawyers to postpone the execution of the sentence.

On June 26, the Bucharest Court ruled that there was no impediment and that Nastase should begin to execute his sentence.

For this reason, the lawyers withdrew the appeal they filed previously, since the execution of the sentence has already started. The lawyers asked the court to consider the six days Nastase spent hospitalized at the Floreasca hospital as part of the sentence.

Nastase was brought in at the Bucharest Court of Appeal this morning. He did not make any statements at the entrance, only saying that he feels better. The former prime-minister was applauded at the entrance in the court of law by some of the people present.

The former prime-minister was taken in custody on June 20 and spent six days under watch at the Floreasca hospital following his suicide attempt. On June 26, he was transferred to Rahova penitentiary.

Nastase’s lawyer, Ion Cazacu, said the former prime-minister is still under medical watch, and even after the neck wounds heal, he still suffers from other conditions.

A few days ago, Nastase was moved from Rahova hospital to Jilava penitentiary. “Adrian Nastase is in the cardiology section in Jilava. It is a medical unit with specialized cardiologists,” said Cazacu to Mediafax newswire.
