Academia Catavencu pamphlet publication, controlled by Medien Holding group, announced in a press release it has suspended its editorial activity, accusing late salaries, unjustified circulation cuts and editorial pressures.

“The issue due for release on June 23, 2014 will no longer appear (or at least not in this editorial formula). The online component of the magazine- the site and the Facebook page, will also be suspended, according to an official press release.

The journalists of the publication complained salaries are too late, the circulation of the publication was cut with no proper justification and the administration of the media group wants to mix advertising with the journalistic issues.

The editorial accused Adrian Rus, general manager of Medien Holding that, while salaries are several months late, the manager has “the attitude of a South-American owner of a banana plantation.”

The management is also accused of unjustifiably cutting the circulation of the magazine, in spite of growing sales.

Also, the editorial is complaining of interferences into the editorial policy.

“General manager Adrian Rus intended to inaugurate an editorial policy unique in the Romanian press: the editorial should propose the advertising seller clients and advertising campaigns while the seller, in turn, should offer article topics (general, not advertorials), judge the humor value of the content of the magazine and even choose the magazine cover. (…) The Academia Catavencu editorial office is not willing to write for free, at the order of the administrator, with the agreement of the doorman and the supervision of the cleanign lady,” said the press release.

The Academia Catavencu brand was taken over by the media trust of businessman Dan Adamescu in the sumer of 2011.
