Softnews Net, company owned by Bogdan Gheorghe and Catalin Garmacea and manager of softpedia.com, a software distribution platform, recorded a net profit of EUR 2.6 million last year and a turnover of EUR 4.9 million according to data published by the Ministry of Finance, writes zf.ro.

That puts Softpedia in the league of the most profitable companies on the local IT market, with a 54 percet profit margin. There are only two other online companies that can boast with those kinds of numbers: ejobs.ro with 52 percent in 2013 and bestjobs.ro with 45 percent.

Founded in 2011, Softpedia indexes information and provides primarily software information and downloads. Its main sections are Windows, Mac, Mac PPC, Linux, Games, Handheld (mobile software), Drivers, Mobile and News. It also covers technology, science, health and entertainment topics from both external and in-house sources, and it provides software and game reviews.

It was the first site that scanned its listed software for viruses and malware, which is now a common practice. It was also one of the first software sites to clearly mark ad-supported software in its listings.

According to Alexa.com, it is in the top 1000 websites in the world.
