42 pct of Romanians believe EU economic situation will improve over the next year

42 percent of Romanians believe that the EU economic situation will improve over the next year, according to an EU evaluation placing the Romanians among the Euro-optimists.

According to Agerpres quoting official data, Romanians are most concerned with the economic situation (29 percent), increasing prices, inflation and unemployment (17 percent), and with pensions (7 percent). Terrorism is also among the reasons of concern for 10 percent of the Romanians.

Romanians are content with having the right to work in any EU member state (84 percent), 10 percent above the European average, with only 6 percent of Romanians considering this right as being something negative.

Regarding the fondness for the EU, 58 percent of Romanians say they are fond with the European Union, a percentage placing them above the European average (45 percent), alongside countries such as France (51 percent), Germany (49 percent) and Poland (59 percent).

The EU means for Romanians the freedom to travel (53 percent), democracy (29 percent) and the euro currency (25 percent). Some 53 percent of Romanians are pleased with the way they make use of their democratic rights in the EU, while at national level only 25 percent of the Romanian respondents are content with how democracy works, up by 10 percent against the similar period in 2013.

Related to the European institutions, 91 percent of Romanians have heard about the European Parliament, 84 percent of the European Commission and 80 percent know about the European Central Bank.

The quoted data is included in the national report of the 2014 autumn edition of the Eurobarometer of public opinion commissioned by the European Commission and conducted from November 8 to 17, 2014.
