The prosecutors of the National Anti-corruption Office (DNA) have ordered searches at the headquarters of 2K Telecom, a company owned by Alexandru Ghita, the brother of Social-democrat deputy Sebastian Ghita, according to Hotnews.

The investigation in this file involves a fraud with European funds in the project Internet in Your School, managed by the Ministry of Education.

The searched are also ongoing at Avitech. Both companies are based in Voluntari.

At the end of 2012, prime minister Victor Ponta asked the former minister of communications Dan Nica to use some of the money from the tender for the allocation of the 4G telecom licenses for a project that would see the introduction of a free wireless internet network in all schools and public institutions.

The contract was worth approximately RON 120 million and was signed in 2013 at the Ministry of National Education in the presence of prime-minister Victor Ponta.

The contract for connecting schools to internet was assigned to a consortium made up of Omnilogic and Avitech, and subcontractor Romtelecom. The contract was assigned for a period of six months while the maintenance period was for five months, according to Hotnews.ro

2K Telecom was also a winner in the telecom tender in 2012. The company acquired 2 blocks of 15 MHz each in the 2600 MHz frequency, valid for the timeframe 2014- 2029.
