Trust Expert, leader in the distribution of HVAC systems, announces the implementation of an innovative heating solution in the Bâlea Lac Chalet – a NIBE Sweden heat pump system, aimed at increasing energy efficiency and contributing to sustainability and environmental conservation.

Since its opening in 1905, the Bâlea Lac Chalet, an iconic property in the Făgăraș Mountains, has faced constant challenges in terms of HVAC systems. Located in an area where, for 8 months of the year, the temperatures drop below 5 degrees Celsius, and the thermal heating works 365 days a year, the Cabana has always encountered difficulties regarding the air conditioning. Without access to natural gas, the property has never used solutions that run on pellets or fuel oil, which are inefficient and extremely harmful to the environment. Thus, the methods on which the Cabana was based concerned heating with wood or electricity, both representing compromise options with high costs and negative footprints on the environment.

After a discussion with the property representatives, Trust Expert identified the ideal solution for the project: NIBE heat pumps. They do not generate heat through combustion but transfer existing heat from a source, such as air, water, or soil, to the desired space. The variant is extremely efficient energetically and financially, as it benefits from reduced operational costs and flexibility in use but also from a substantial decrease in harmful emissions.

“We carefully analyzed a series of solutions for heating the Bâlea Lac Chalet. We initially considered the soil-water system, which, in addition to requiring expensive drilling into the rock, would not have generated the necessary thermal energy since the rock does not accumulate the same heat as the soil. We also explored the idea of burying the serpentine in the lake, but due to the protected site status of the lake, that option was ruled out. In the end, I opted for the air-water system. This choice came with its own challenges, given the limited space around the Chalet, which has 70% exposure to the lake’s sheen. However, we are proud to have managed to find an efficient and environmentally friendly solution,” said Gabriel Anicai, founder of Trust Expert.

Thus, for the Bâlea Lac Chalet, the solution adopted was an air-water system composed of six NIBE F2120 heat pumps specially designed for the northern Scandinavian climate. To maximize the results, Trust Expert installed photovoltaic panels in the area and linked the two technologies to increase the level of autonomy of the Chalet.

“We are very satisfied with the results of this project. By using the heat pumps provided by Trust Expert, we were able to completely eliminate the need to purchase and store firewood for the entire season. This change not only freed up space but significantly improved the appearance of the Chalet’s facade, which was often hidden by mountains of wood, giving us more branding opportunities. Moreover, we managed to reduce the need to assign two employees who previously worked in continuous shifts to keep the fire lit and to ensure the continuous operation of the heating,” said Ms. Klingeiss, operator of the Bâlea Lac Chalet.
