Rompetrol Group begins drilling operations in Romania

The drilling and well services division of Rompetrol Group has recently begun drilling operations in Romania, in the locality of Filipesti de Padure, Prahova County. Over USD 8.5 million have been invested for the purchase and operation of the drilling unit.

This new well is part of a USD 29 million providing services contract between Rompetrol and OMV Petrom. The company will execute drilling works in Romanian blocks up to 2015.

“The investment mainly concerned the purchasing of a performance drilling unit and it is the first company unit of the kind on the territory of the country. The company experience of more than 35 years in drilling services and repairing of wells in 15 countries will allow us developing in the next period specific activities both internally and in the Black Sea region”, stated Gheorghe Georgescu, the General Manager of Rompetrol S.A.

Drilling equipment for this well has been provided by the plants Upet Targoviste and Imut Moreni and it also includes specialized Norwegian systems. The unit has a static capacity of 160 metric tons at hooks and can be used at depths of 2.500 meters.

The Drilling and Well Services Division of the Rompetrol Group was founded in 1951. This division has executed operations on four continents, in countries such as Libya, Egypt, Syria or India.
