Enel has invested EUR 400 million in electricity grids in Muntenia, Banat and Dobrogea over the past five years

The E-Distributie companies, part of the Enel group, have invested EUR 400 million in the last 5 years in the grid in Muntenia, Banat and Dobrogea areas, with equipment made in Romania. In this region, the company has 2.8 million customers.

The company further improved the distribution service quality according to January-October 2018 data, following investments in grid modernisation aimed at benefiting customers. For the first 10 months of this year, data collected by ANRE showed a further reduction, compared to last year, of the System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI), the leading indicator related to the performance of distribution operators.

As a result of investments in grid upgrades, the E-Distributie companies that operate in Muntenia Sud, Banat and Dobrogea areas are the top three performing electricity distribution operators in Romania in terms of quality of service, and have been for several years. In the first 10 months of 2018, SAIDI stood at 113 minutes for E-Distributie Muntenia, the best in the country, 149 minutes for E-Distributie Dobrogea and 191 minutes for E-Distributie Banat. This result already represents a significant improvement over 2017 full-year indicators, when, according to ANRE’s data, SAIDI for E-Distributie Muntenia was 145 minutes, 185 minutes for E-Distributie Dobrogea and 259 minutes for E-Distributie Banat, while the national average was 283.9 minutes.

The E-Distributie companies’ positive performance is the result of the investments carried out in high-voltage stations and grids, which between 2008 and 2018, amounted to approximately 400 million euros. These investments have a deeper positive impact on the Romanian economy, since equipment such as power transformers and cables are sourced from Romanian manufacturers. Transformers for the primary stations are provided by local companies like Retrasib Sibiu or Electroputere Craiova.

Service quality benefitted from investments in the high voltage grids, through the modernisation of the primary stations with new modern transformers and automated equipment, which connected the stations to the Telecontrol system that allows E-Distributie specialists to manage the stations remotely.

E-Distributie Muntenia, the distribution operator in charge of distribution grids in Bucharest, Ilfov and Giurgiu counties, operates more than 60 primary stations.

In Bucharest alone, E-Distributie Muntenia operates 35 primary stations, 28 of which were modernised and connected to the Telecontrol system between 2008 and 2018. The primary stations Nord, Filaret, Obor, Cotroceni, Pajura and Solex are currently undergoing modernisation works to replace power transformers, and the latter three stations are due to be completed in 2019.

The 13 operational primary stations in Ilfov and the 15 in Giurgiu, have all been modernised and integrated into the Telecontrol system in the same period.

The high voltage grid in the Muntenia region saw the installation of over 60 new and modern power transformers, with some being installed in new stations and some replacing old transformers.

E-Distributie Banat modernised 30 primary stations between 2008 and 2018. Among the most important works were the primary stations of Teba, Musicescu, Balta Sarata, Victoria, Decebal, Freidorf, Calnic.

E-Distributie Dobrogea, during the same period, carried out modernisation works on 80 primary stations, such as Tabacarie, Constanta Centru, Abator, Mahmudia, Crisan, Neptun and Mircea Vodă.
