Russian oil company, Lukoil – which has operations in Romania – announced that plans to to develop wind and solar power plants in Romania and Bulgaria.

The statment was made by Vasily Zubakin, deputy head of the company’s main energy division, quoted by news agency Ria Novosti adding the projects are part of Lukoil’s strategy to enter the renewable energy business.
According to him, the oil company took this decision as Russia has no mechanism to support alternative energy sources.
It is expected to wrap up plans for the new capacities, meaning negotiations with potential partners from the two countries, by the end of this year.
