In line with the decarbonization strategy of KMG International Group which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the development of the regional ultra-fast charging network for electric cars, KMG Rompetrol Development submitted, in November 2022, an application for financing a project on the acquisition and installation of ultra-fast charging stations for electric vehicles.

They will be located within Rompetrol stations in the new integrated service centers opened on the A1 motorway, an important part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

“As a company focused on sustainable development, we recognize the major role of charging stations for electric vehicles in our decarbonization approach. The grid deployment of charging service for electric vehicles is an important step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fighting climate change. We are pleased to announce the successful initiation of our first project co-financed by the European Union. This milestone marks a significant step in our commitment to innovation and sustainable development”, stated Alua Amirova, Strategy and Sustainable Development Director, KMG International (Rompetrol).

The project “Development of alternative fuels infrastructure by Rompetrol on the A1 motorway at the RO-HU border” is co-financed by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF-Transport), which was approved on March 15, 2023 by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency.

The aim of the project is  to install 11 300 kW charging stations  (each station with two 150 kW charging points) and to upgrade the grid connection for 11 locations with a power of 600 kW each in CNAIR1 locations as follows:

1.A1 motorway, km 558+380, lot 1 Right – Pecica, Arad county

2.A1 motorway, km 558+380, lot 1 Left – Pecica, Arad county

“Charging stations for electric vehicles facilitate the transition to cleaner mobility solutions and, at the same time, contribute to the process of awareness by citizens and the community of the effects that the choice of vehicle type can have on the environment. Through the investment we are going to make, with the financial support of the European Union, in the infrastructure of charging stations for electric vehicles, we will contribute to a greener future, while promoting innovation and economic growth. It will also have a positive impact on cross-border transport and support the transition to low-emission mobility. Our goal is to become a provider of integrated solutions necessary for road transport, in line with the evolution of market trends and expectations of our customers”, stated Laurentiu Coltanel, Group Director Planning and Network Development, KMG International (Rompetrol).

The total estimated value of the project is about 2.2 million euros, of which about 900 thousand euros will be granted by the European Union. The project period is 36 months, running from November 10, 2022 to November 9, 2025.
