Daikin, a market leader in heat pump technology with more than 90 years of experience in the design and manufacture of innovative heating and cooling technologies, expands its range of heat pump systems with Altherma 3 R MT. The new mid-temperature refrigerant split R32 heat pump can be connected to radiators already installed in your home, underfloor heating, a compatible hot water boiler or even solar panels.

Designed specifically for renovation projects, the Daikin Altherma 3 R MT is suitable for replacing or upgrading traditional gas or gas boilers. The launch of this product underlines Daikin’s commitment to help reduce carbon emissions from residential buildings, not only in newly built homes but also in existing ones.

Most residential buildings are still heated with outdated, pollutant fossil fuel-based systems, such as coal and oil, and buildings currently responsible for approximately 36% of all CO2 emissions in the European Union. This contrasts sharply with the EU’s ambitious target, set out in a recently signed EU law, to reduce CO2 emissions from 40% to 55% by 2030. In some European countries, renewable energy-based heating has become standard for new buildings, but the potential it offers requires higher efficiency in the replacement of old equipment.

Daikin Altherma 3 R MT, the latest product in Daikin’s air-to-water heat pump portfolio, is specifically designed for renovation projects and replacement of outdated heating and domestic hot water systems. Daikin’s new heat pump fits perfectly into confined residential spaces: the narrow outdoor unit can be mounted on an apartment balcony or in the garden, while each of the indoor units fits in any room. Both floor standing and ECH2O units have compact dimensions, requiring minimal floor space.

An investment in comfort and energy savings, the new air-to-water heat pump Altherma 3 R MT is equipped with innovative technologies for silent operation and offers a variety of smart options for connecting the system to remote control technologies. Cloud-ready, the new heat pump can be easily connected to your home WIFI network allowing it to be set and controlled through a mobile app from anywhere. Additionally, control can also be done through voice commands using Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

“Two-thirds of the 43.6 million single and multi-family dwellings in Central and Eastern European countries are over 30 years old, built before 1989, according to the EU Observatory on Building Stock. In a time when efficiency, sustainability and cost-effectiveness are crucial, we need an innovative alternative when replacing heating and domestic hot water systems. The Altherma 3 R MT comes as a range extension to Daikin’s product range and is a step forward in our mission to have a heat pump in every home, specifically designed for renovation projects”, says Daniel Vasile, Managing Director of Daikin Romania.

Strictly technical, this latest range of Daikin air-to-water heat pumps consists of an outdoor unit that can be combined with one of three different indoor units. The floor-standing unit has an integrated domestic hot water boiler, making it ideal for replacing the existing boiler and providing a single solution for heating, cooling, and domestic hot water. It also features the Bizone function for temperature control in two different zones of your home.

The second Altherma 3 R MT indoor unit, which is more compact and wall mountable, can be combined with either an existing compatible water boiler or a new one In cases where photovoltaic solar panels or thermal collectors are already installed or planned the ECH2O unit has a water tank that connects to them, maximizing the long-term energy efficiency of the heating, cooling, and domestic hot water system..

All Daikin Altherma 3 R MT units have an efficiency rating of up to A+++ for space heating, while floor standing and ECH2O units have an A+ rating for domestic hot water. These heat pumps are highly efficient and provide a hot water output temperature of 65°C even at outdoor temperatures as low as -15°C, which is sufficient to work with existing high temperature radiators. These heat pumps are guaranteed to operate even even in locations where outdoor temperatures can drop as low as -25°C, making them ideal for those living in an area where winters are extremely cold.

As an additional advantage over a traditional boiler, the Altherma 3 R MT can also be used with a heat pump convector to provide cooling during the warmer summer months, offering not only an efficient solution for heating and domestic hot water, but also year-round thermal comfort in the home.

Furthermore, The new Daikin Altherma 3 H MT air-to-water heat pump utilizes the revolutionary R-32 refrigerant with a lower global warming potential (GWP). Daikin is the first company worldwide launching heat pumps equipped with R-32, which is equivalent in power to standard refrigerants but achieves high energy efficiency and low CO2 emissions. Being easy to recover and reuse, R-32 is the perfect solution for meeting new European CO2 emission targets.

Whether as part of a complete home renovation or just to replace your existing traditional central heating system, the Daikin Altherma 3 R MT refrigerant split heat pump range is the perfect choice for upgrading your home’s air conditioning and domestic hot water system.
