Have you ever wondered what happens to all the waste we generate? From plastic containers to old electronics, our society produces a staggering amount of trash daily. But what if we told you that a group of creative individuals turn this trash into treasures?

The project signed by OSCAR Downstream and PlaYouth Association, now in its second edition, involves hundreds of teachers and students in a marathon of workshops dedicated to recycling and innovative methods of reusing recyclable materials.

800 teachers from 160 schools will benefit from a comprehensive educational program focusing on environmental care, the basic principles of the circular economy, and stimulating creativity.

Pre-universitary teachers, teachers, and educators from Arad, Bihor, Bistrița Năsăud, Cluj, Maramureș, Satu Mare, Sălaj, and Timiș counties can register here until 30 January 2024 to participate in the 2nd edition of the Caravan.

Recycling is not just about separating garbage into different bins; it can also be a creative and innovative process. It’s not just about reducing waste; it’s about embracing creativity and finding a second chance for items that may have been overlooked. This is the focus of the Creative Recycling Caravan project. The creative approach to recycling highlights the importance of incorporating sustainability and environmental awareness into every aspect of our lives. By reusing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills, we can bring amazing things to life that not only look beautiful but also contribute to a better future.

The project’s central theme is that each participating team of 5 teachers and groups of students will create 5 recycling and recreation zones in their schools: selective collection, reading, happy birds, green zone, and creative recycling.

”We want the participating teams to discover and pass on information about sustainability, rational consumption, and selective collection – through experiential activities and practical exercises that inspire people to become more aware of their impact on the environment and the ecosystem and why not, to promote and turn the knowledge gained into an enjoyable and beneficial hobby for both them and the environment”, said Cimpoeșu Andreea, manager of this project.

Teachers will participate in February to 1-day marathons, in 8 live meetings, one for each county, with workshops where they will receive all the information needed to carry out this project by mid-May. Also included are working sessions in which participating teachers devise initial plans, which they will tackle with their teams as they carry out the activities.

The first edition of the Caravan took place in 2023 in 4 counties: Giurgiu, Calarasi, Brasov, and Sibiu. It involved more than 400 teachers, teachers, and educators and their students from 84 educational establishments.

”Last year, this project was received with much interest and enthusiasm, so extending it to double the number of counties came naturally to include even more beneficiaries. We believe things can change in our country if we care and get involved. Both big and small people can contribute to protecting the environment. Corporate social responsibility is an important part of our strategy again this year. With a history of more than 22 years, OSCAR Downstream has constantly adapted and evolved with our partners and customers to best meet the needs of a changing society”, said Nicolae Bănică, CEO of OSCAR Downstream.

By 15 May 2024, implementation will be completed in 20 schools within each county, followed by the announcement of winners on 28 June. 32 of the 160 schools will be awarded. Each county will be awarded:

First prize: a workshops mountain camp for participating teachers from the winning school, 4 days (3 nights);
Second prize: a printer for the school;
Third prize: BIC school kits;
Mention: access to a conference and three online workshops organized by PlaYouth.
