Pirelli Romania supports education and pre-university and university education, through numerous projects that it carries out together with the high schools in Slatina, but also with the technical universities of Craiova, Bucharest and Pitesti. The new academic year started with a first project in partnership with the National University of Science and Polytechnic Technology Bucharest – University Centre Pitesti.

60 master students from the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology of Pitesti have the unique opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in the field of tyre manufacturing by attending the course organised by Pirelli Romania specialists on advanced tyre manufacturing technologies. The course will run throughout the semester and is a first in the academic field, demonstrating the close link between academia and Pirelli Romania. The future specialists will have the opportunity to work in the tyre factory in Slatina, where the Pirelli Group’s Motorsport unit is also located.

Pirelli has been producing Prestige and Premium tyres in Slatina since 2006 for the world’s leading car manufacturers. Slatina also produces tyres for Formula 1, which are used on racetracks around the world.

Pirelli has extended its presence in Formula 1 as a Global Tyre Partner after Formula 1© and the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) accepted the company’s offer for a three-year period from 2025 to 2027.

Pirelli’s commitment to Formula 1 – as with all forms of motorsport, where the company has been present for over 110 years in more than 350 championships around the world – represents a tremendous opportunity to innovate and experiment with new processes and technologies that master’s students now have the chance to experience. These include artificial intelligence: all with the aim of transferring technology to the road.

In addition, Pirelli supports the environmental sustainability targets set by Formula 1, as the sport has committed to being Net Zero Carbon by 2030. The company is at the forefront of research and development – together with the FIA and Formula 1 – in both sporting and technical innovations to complement the work already being done to reduce CO2 emissions over the entire lifecycle of a Formula 1 tyre.

Pirelli Romania’s involvement in education projects, as well as CSR projects, is complemented by its sustainability activities, whereby, from 2024, all tyres used in FIA Formula 1 World Championship events, tyres produced in Slatina, will be FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council®)* certified.

FSC certification for forest management ensures full traceability of forest-based materials throughout the supply chain and confirms that the forest component plantations of tyres are managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of local communities and employees, while promoting economic sustainability.
