Copil Iubit la Bord and MOL Romania have initiated the Car Seat Check program, which will take place at three stations in Cluj-Napoca: MOL Calea Turzii, MOL Observator, and MOL Calea Dorobanților. The program aims to assist drivers who transport child passengers in ensuring they take all the necessary measures for safe transportation. Therefore, Wednesdays and Fridays until July 25th become dedicated days for learning safety rules when traveling with the most vulnerable passengers in the car.

At the three MOL Romania stations, the residents of Cluj-Napoca will learn how to ensure they have correctly installed child car seats and will benefit from free counseling sessions provided by a team of local specialists.

“Children are the most precious passengers, and it is essential to use child car seats correctly for their safety. Alongside Crucea Albă, we want to help parents ensure that they have taken all the necessary measures for themselves and their little ones to reach their destination safely. I am convinced that they will find useful information at the workshops in MOL stations, where they are warmly welcomed,” says Camelia Ene, CEO, and Country Chairman of MOL Romania.

According to the final figures published by the European Commission for the year 2021, Romania is the country with the highest number of deaths caused by road accidents. One of the most effective measures adopted to protect young vehicle passengers is the proper use of seat belts and child car seats. Studies show that improper use of seat belts and car seats can reduce or even eliminate the effectiveness of the car’s safety system in the event of a road accident, increasing the risk of serious or even fatal injuries.

“A road accident can happen anytime. Therefore, it is essential to use appropriate child car seats, suitable for their age and size, and installed correctly on every journey with children. These criteria significantly reduce the risk of death and serious injuries, protecting the most precious passengers in the car: children,” adds Ana Măiță, President of the Crucea Albă Foundation.

How the Car Seat Check program works:

At each of the three service stations belonging to MOL Romania, there will be a meeting point between program partner consultants and parents or prospective parents who want to ensure they have taken all safety measures for transporting their children. The residents of Cluj-Napoca will benefit from a free check of their child car seat installation during an individual counseling session, which lasts approximately 30 minutes per family.

To participate, parents need to make a phone reservation at least two hours before their preferred time slot, and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

During these meetings, parents will be guided by a consultant trained in the correct installation of child car seats, a course offered by IOSH (The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) in the United Kingdom. In the session, parents will develop the following skills:

  • Learning the correct procedures for installing the child car safety system through practical experience and guidance from the consultant.
  • Individual counseling regarding the next stage of the child’s growth to choose the appropriate child car safety system that matches their new height, weight, and age.
  • Proper selection of the car seat/infant carrier.
  • Checking the chosen child car safety system for any defects, expiration dates, or recalls from the manufacturer.
  • Using the Child Car Safety App, which provides parents with easy access to a wide range of information regarding current legislation on maintaining child safety in traffic. Free access based on a phone reservation.

To benefit from a meeting with the consultants, it is necessary to make an appointment to determine the station, date, and time slot. Interested individuals can make a reservation by calling the consultant at the chosen station and find additional details on the Copil Iubit la Bord project website: https://www.copiilabord.ro/car-seat-check-program
