Uber, the application which connects riders with drivers, is now available in Iasi, the biggest city of Moldova. Iasi is the fifth city in Romania where Uber is available.

Starting February 21st, people of Iasi can tap a button and get a ride in the Uber app.

“We are happy to launch our service Iasi, the 5th Romanian Uber city. Iasi has chosen Uber as much as Uber has chosen Iasi – thousands of people have opened the Uber app in Iasi in the last six months. (…) We want to partner with authorities here to make the city less congested, reduce pollution as well as make it more tourist – friendly,” said Nicoleta Schroeder, head of Uber Romania.

The first rider who tried the application in Iasi was Marius Manole, actor of the National Theatre in Bucharest, born in Iasi.

Uber was founded in 2009 in the USA and it has been active on the Romanian market since February 2015, having started in Bucharest and expanded in 2016 to Cluj, Brasov and Timisoara.

In 2017, Uber’s Romanian business increased by 56 percent to RON 7 million and its profit tripled to around RON 453,000.
