The digital arm of Grup Feroviar Român (GFR) has launched Synopsis, an application that integrates a large part of the systems developed and implemented so far by GFR, in order to provide real-time operational perspectives and thus support the decision-making process.

The system centralizes several types of essential information for railway operators, already transposed into Romanian digital systems that integrate processes such as: Train traffic (INFO RU – a CFR application), Wagon monitoring (INFOR GFR and Shunting Expert – GFR applications), Control of train service personnel (CPDT – a GFR application), Electronic conclusion of transport contracts (STE – a GFR application), Train scheduling (a GFR application that communicates with Atlas RU of CFR); Estimation of train circulation to destination (ETA Expert, a GFR application).

By integrating all this information, Synopsis provides real-time reports on trains, locomotives, wagons, staff, routes, consignment notes, through a simple and intuitive interface generating accurate and eloquent data (tables, maps, traffic charts, routes, etc.). The application substantially reduces the time and effort of collecting and centralizing information, thus helping the decision-making process in the Operations department or at working points, as well as at management level.

“The speed and precision of decision making are two key factors for GFR’s work, as they influence the movement of tens of thousands of tons of cargo each day and ultimately ensure that we meet our commitment to clients and partners,” says Gruia Stoica, President and founder of the GRAMPET Group – Grup Feroviar Roman. “Technological advancement is undoubtedly an important competitive advantage in our industry, especially in such times of unprecedented uncertainty and risks, which have an immediate and disruptive impact on global distribution chains and trade routes. Faced with these challenges, our railway operators can respond quickly, with the help of real-time information provided by our digital solutions.”

Since 2005, GFR has put significant resources into innovation projects, developing over 25 customized apps that already contribute to bettering regional operations. The Synopsis launch marks GFR reaching maturity of its digitization process.

Amedeo Neculcea, Deputy General Manager of the Grup Feroviar Roman, says: “One of the greatest challenges for the railway industry has always been to find a way to get all the information about a certain train, in a precise, easy way and at any time. Even if this information was found in various digital systems, the synoptic, consolidating vision was missing. Synopsis is the most interconnected application (it uses data from 9 systems and transmits to 3) and can process a very large amount of data so as to generate accurate and useful reports. I want to thank all engineers (from GFR, Institutul de Tehnica de Calcul, INFORMATICA FEROVIARA and CFR) who created the applications without which Synopsis would not have been as complex as it is now.”

Launched at the end of last week, Synopsis is the third digital app entirely developed by the GFR team, after ETA Expert (which provides real time estimations of trains arrival at destination) and Trasa Expert (a system designed to improving the design of ideal routes and goods capacity).

GFR constantly dedicates talent and financial resources to innovation and technology projects, seeking to provide clients with an experience tailored to market needs. Its applications combine the talent of GFR engineers with the know-how of railway staff, to generate integrated and easy-to-use platforms that simplify and streamline operational and commercial activities. These include the Electronic Consignment Note, which provides access to commercial and technical data on loading wagons and assistance in drawing up transport contracts (launched in 2017) and Railway Orders (2012), which ensures customers’ web access to the process of ordering and securing empty wagons.
