Sameday, one of the leaders in the courier market, has prepared for the end-of-year peak period with measures aimed at providing a better customer experience. The company, which created and operates the easybox network, has invested in technology solutions to facilitate more efficient deliveries during the Black Friday period and complement the consumer experience offered by online stores to customers.

Interactive Delivery Management provides delivery predictability and eliminates the worry of courier coordination

For Black Friday, Sameday is launching the Interactive Delivery Management (IDM) pilot project to provide more visibility into delivery times, a need faced by 80% of online shoppers, according to research commissioned by the company this year.

The IDM app is accessible to customers in Bucharest, Ilfov and 3509 other locations in the country, directly from the mobile device on which they receive the delivery confirmation SMS. At the click of a button, online shoppers can view the 3-hour estimated delivery time with 90% accuracy. In this way, the courier company is responding to a consumer need and giving consumers more predictability and better control over their time. At the same time, IDM also includes order redirection functionality in one of more than 3600 easybox lockers.

“Interactive Delivery Management is a differentiator in the courier industry because through software development and integration with live traffic platforms, we can predict the 3-hour delivery window with very good accuracy. With this new development we take the worry of coordinating with the courier away from our customers, giving them predictability. In addition, the application plans a delivery route for the couriers by ordering addresses and recommending optimal routes. In this way, we better respond to customers’ desire for speed of delivery. The option of redirecting orders to easybox brings added control and convenience to customers who can choose to pick up parcels directly from their preferred easybox at any time of the day or night.” – points out Lucian Baltaru, Founder and CEO Sameday Group

IDM is part of the series of software developments made by the Romanian courier company this year, being the result of investments in technology and digitalization. In 2022, Sameday is investing €50 million in technology. The company’s investments are directed towards the acquisition and implementation of solutions for faster sorting of parcels, hardware equipment for couriers, as well as the development of software solutions to streamline the activity.

New equipment to increase sorting and delivery capacity by more than 20,000 parcels per hour compared to last year

Preparing and investing in the run-up to the sales season involved Sameday analysing the results of last year’s Black Friday campaign and making data-driven investment decisions. The company focused on relocating existing agencies to spaces that would accommodate volume increases, choosing to temperately increase the number of new agencies. Thus, Sameday currently operates through 83 local agencies, covering all delivery areas in Romania.

At the same time, the company has increased its sorting capacity by 20,000 parcels per hour as a result of the purchase of new equipment to equip its logistics centres. The investment in HUB equipment this year amounted to EUR 7 million. The expansion of the fleet to 3 500 machines and the easybox locker network completes the steps taken by the company in preparation for Black Friday 2022.

The easybox network has expanded by 41% since last year

Sameday’s easybox service has quickly become a standard for the courier industry and a criterion by which consumers prioritise online shops. There are currently over 3,600 easyboxes in 333 urban and rural locations across Romania. In order to ensure that an order reaches the end consumer as quickly as possible, easyboxes have been placed close to the areas of interest, so that the distance to the nearest locker can be covered in less than 7 minutes on foot in medium-sized and small towns, with shorter times in Bucharest and the country’s municipalities.

In preparation for the peak online shopping season, Sameday has expanded its easybox network by 1,485 new units compared to the same period last year. The courier company has accelerated its nationwide penetration, and compared to last year’s Black Friday period, the easybox network is present in over 100 new locations, with an increased focus on smaller towns. About 43% of the locations where lockers are installed are associated with metropolitan areas.

Currently, more than 50% of Sameday orders go to easybox, a delivery method that has become a standard in Romania for online shops and consumers. In October more than 30% of online retailers used this delivery method. The company has been constantly working to improve its courier services so that waiting times during this period are as short as possible. To avoid overcrowding of lockers, end customers are advised to pick up their parcels from easybox as quickly as possible, and those who do so in less than two hours can be entered into a draw to win an iPhone 14 phone for the day.
