Cargus, the leading courier company, has launched a process of equipping its couriers with Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) devices. The project, meant to reduce delivery time and to continue streamlining Cargus operations, entails a total investment of EUR 2.25 million.

In the context of high delivery volume, Cargus continues to adapt its operational flow, including through technical solutions for storing information, modernizing its warehouses or optimizing the sorting process for packages. All these plans are part of the strategy of Mid Europa Partners investment fund, one of the most active investors in Romania in the past years, which took over Cargus at the beginning of 2019.

“Cargus clients want speed, even more so in the new context – from the delivery time to their interaction with us. For their part, couriers, too, want speed, as the delivery volume continues to grow. Last year, for example, the volume went up 20% and the pace is the same this year. Equipping our couriers with Personal Digital Assistant devices responds to these needs, by simplifying processes to the benefit of couriers and clients alike. In the coming period, we will work on new projects to streamline operations. We are becoming more supple, better organized, more agile”, said Jaroslaw Sliwa, CEO Cargus.

Currently, more than 50% of Cargus couriers are equipped with the new Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) devices, and by the end May, the entire team of up to 2,500 couriers is scheduled to benefit of them.

Cargus couriers will use the devices in all technical phases of the delivery. In other words, the delivery process will be significantly simplified, couriers performing all operations in a single point of contact: from calling and texting the client to mapping routes and signing off digitally. This simplification will be reflected in couriers’ productivity, which is set to go up 10% on each route, but also in the time spent by them on deliveries, as they would save approximately one hour per day, according to the company’s estimates. As such, both Cargus couriers and clients will be the beneficiaries of the project.

The device integrates all Android 10 capabilities and is easy to use. It offers the possibility of speed dial, but also specific shipment options and additional options of using the device, to which further functionalities will be added in the future. All distances, and also Cargus team’s most-wanted features have been added through one touch, starting with Google Maps and Waze apps, as couriers seek to optimize routes. The project is part of Cargus’s digitalization project, and the investment amounts to EUR 2.25 million.
