The search engine momondo.ro analyzed the demand for flights from Romanian cities to Munich for the period around Oktoberfest and revealed that compared to 2017, more Romanians have searched for flights to the Bavarian region for the duration of this year’s edition of the famous beer festival.

According to search engine data, flight demand grew by 33 percent between September 22 and October 7, 2018, compared with the previous year’s edition of the festival. At the same time, there are Romanians who took this year’s trip two weeks before the event.

For the first half of September there were 7.8 percent more flight searches than for the festival period. However, for the two-week period in which the festival took place momondo.ro specialists observed that the interest of Romanian travelers to fly to Munich is 60 percent higher than for the post-event period October 8-23.

”Many Romanians probably figured they should get to Munich a few days in advance and thus be able to visit the city first and then remain at the opening event of the festival. Although we are tempted to think that we can make savings traveling before the festival, our data on the cost of air tickets from Romania to Munich shows the opposite. Flights are cheaper, on average, by 12 percent now, during the festival, than at the beginning of September,” said Mircea Giurca, momondo’s representative in Romania.

When it comes to accommodation, the cost of a hotel room in Munich during the festival is significantly higher. Travelers have to consider an average budget of EUR 239 per night in a double room at 3-4 star hotels between September 22 and October 7.

After the festival, however, between October 8 and 23, travel costs are much lower. A return flight costs an average of EUR 133.5 and a double room at a 3-4-star hotel reaches about EUR 147 for one night.
