Nicolae Capusan, the developer of SunGarden Golf & Spa Resort, says that he will continue to invest in the complex spanning 30 hectares near Cluj-Napoca.
The owner has an ongoing investment in the hotel component of the resort, planning to add 40 new rooms. Two conference centers and two new restaurants are also part of the development program. Furthermore, SunGarden has a golf court that will be expanded. The initial investment in the court that will be finished this year reached EUR 1 million. Meanwhile, the spa area covers 1,400 sqm in total and comprises two areas.
Capusan says that the golf club currently has 40 members that pay an annual membership fee, but it also attracts other players that visit the site.
“The best marketing tool is the golf court,” said the owner.
The resort employs around 150 people in full season and recorded a turnover of RON 10 million in 2017.
The occupancy rates in the complex are differentiated, depending on the business lines. For instance, the hotel had an occupancy rate of 42 percent in 2017, while for corporate and private events it jumps to 100 percent.
In the past two years, the resort has registered a significant increase in the flow of foreign tourists (over 50 percent), coming mainly from Europe. The tourist complex has also started to see more visits from Israeli and American tourists.
Capusan has two other hotels in Dej and Turda and the businessman has also purchased the Decebal Hotel in Baile Herculane.
“I am handling right now the strategy and development sides,” said Capusan on his involvement in SunGarden, adding he has put in place a team of nine managers to run the business.
