According to IRI Travel, the main tour operator specializing in both the Bulgarian and Romanian coasts, a significant number of hotels on the Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek, and Turkish coasts are highly sought after by tourists. They are experiencing high occupancy rates for the peak season (July-August) due to the impressive volume of advance bookings made between January and March. Positive trends in booking volume have been observed for all summer destinations.

Prior to the summer season, the Romanian coast, Bulgaria, and Greece are in excellent shape, ready to offer tourists an unforgettable experience. Several Romanian travel agents had the opportunity to visit these coasts during the info trips organized by IRI Travel and noticed that most resorts and hotels are already prepared to welcome tourists.

Regarding summer bookings in 2023, IRI Travel has recorded the following developments:

Bulgaria: +127% Greece: +92% Turkey: +40% Romania: +10%

With few exceptions, resorts and hotels in Romania and Bulgaria are ready for the summer season.  The majority of them have diversified their services, offering animation programs for children and entertainment programs for adults. Top hotels in Bulgaria even invite Romanian artists since over 60% of their tourists are Romanians. In Romania, many hotels have hired foreign workers to cover their staffing needs for this season, including skilled workers such as chefs, waiters, and housekeepers.

Top hotels stand out with impressive facilities such as using bracelets for all-inclusive access, TVs in bathrooms, coffee machines in rooms, mineral water-based spas, and superior quality finishes. Most hotels in Romania, including older ones, have been renovated and modernized, providing optimal conditions for tourists, regardless of their star rating (2 and 3 stars). They have new furniture, renovated bathrooms, and refurbished public spaces. Even in the absence of Romanian staff in hotels, accommodation facilities have covered their needs with foreign employees, ensuring a high level of service and hospitality. Many hotels pay special attention to sustainability, adopting eco-friendly practices such as using green energy, local or even self-produced food products (as in Albena), avoiding excessive use of packaging and plastic products.

The most sought-after hotels are 4 and 5-star establishments that offer all-inclusive services and have received positive reviews from tourists in previous years. Tourists are looking for newly opened or renovated hotels that offer improved experiences. Additionally, 2-3 star hotels that have undergone renovations and provide quality services are also sought after by tourists who wish to return after the modernization.

Tourism specialists have been impressed by the hotels on the Romanian coast, noting that most of them have been renovated and offer very good accommodation conditions, even at 2 and 3-star ratings. They have also been impressed by the top hotels in Bulgaria, which provide remarkable services and pay special attention to the needs of tourists.

“To have a successful vacation, tourists are advised to seek the assistance of a travel consultant who will help them identify the most suitable offer based on their needs and desires. All three destinations visited by our team and our partners – the Romanian, Bulgarian, and Greek coasts – offer options for all categories of tourists, and the choice of destination and hotel should be made considering the preferences and requirements of each tourist to ensure a memorable vacation,” emphasizes Lucian Bădîrcea, CEO of IRI Travel.
