Top cheapest destinations to escape winter for a week

Momondo specialists have analyzed the total cost of popular sunny destinations during European winter, taking into account flights, 3-4 star hotels, food, drinks and public transport to reveal the cheapest warm destination for this winter. Chiang Mai is the cheapest sunny holiday destination this winter, as Romanian travelers can catch a week under the sun in northern Thailand for about 924 euros, with basic expenses included.

Chiang Mai has among the cheapest flight and food costs, of less than 500 euros, for a seven-day holiday. In fact, according to momondo.ro travel search engine data, Thailand has proved to be one of the cheapest holiday options, with two destinations in the top ten cheapest for those who want to flee this winter.

India and Indonesia are also among the cheapest destinations. For a week in New Delhi and Bali, travel, accommodation and food costs reach just over 1,000 euros for Romanians. Although the advantages of holiday costs speak for themselves, Romanians who want to go looking for hot days in the wintertime have to face longer flights with stopovers across Europe.

There are, however, destinations such as Tenerife in Spain, about eight flight hours away, for which Romanians can also find the cheapest airfare deals on an average of 237 euros. The European city offers gentle temperatures, and the total cost of accommodation, transport, meals and drinks is less than 1,300 euros.

The most popular destination to get away from winter is Dubai 

Among the top 10 destinations most popular in Romanian searches, Dubai is by far at the top. While prices for accommodation, food, beverages and local transport are not the smallest, flights cost significantly lower, with an average of 238 euros, which keeps Dubai in the top 4 cheapest destinations with beach access.

Thailand is gaining ground in Romanian preferences, with three of the most popular destinations in Bangkok, Phuket and Krabi. Of these, Bangkok is the second most wanted destination by Romanians looking for sunny escapades this winter, with the lowest cost of accommodation in a 3-4 star hotel. For a week, Romanians have to consider an estimated budget of 479 euros.

At the same time, alongside Phuket, the two Thai cities are among the top 10 cheapest holiday destinations this winter. For those who choose to head to Krabi, the savings will be mainly for food and local transport where costs are the lowest in the top ten most popular destinations.

When it comes to dining in town, Colombo proposes the most advantageous menus, the cost of lunch and dinner every day is under 8 euros. Here, in the capital of Sri Lanka, travelers will also have the lowest prices for drinks consumed daily – for example cappuccino and local beer – as well as local transport.
