Chimcomplex S.A. Borzesti, headquartered in Onești city, Industriilor Street, number 3, Bacau County, Romania, implemented the project “High-Efficiency Cogeneration Plant with a capacity of up to 8 MWe at Chimcomplex S.A. Borzesti – Ramnicu ValceaBranch (SMIS code 2014+ 119391) during the period May 18, 2022 – December 31, 2023, benefiting from non-reimbursable financing based on the funding contract concluded with the Ministry of European Funds as the Managing Authority for the Large Infrastructure Operational Program.

The project was implemented in the city of Ramnicu Valcea, Uzinei Street, number 1, Valcea County, Romania. The total value of the project was 48,993,686.57 lei. The non-reimbursable financing amounted to 19,061,717.18 lei, of which 16,202,459.62 lei represented EU co-financing through the European Regional Development Fund.

The overall objective of the project was to increase the energy efficiency of Chimcomplex S.A. Borzești – Rm. Vâlcea Branch by installing a high-efficiency trigeneration plant with a capacity of 6 MWe and achieving savings in primary energy consumption through the use of energy produced in a high-efficiency cogeneration system.

The specific objectives of the project aimed at:

reducing the amount of primary energy for producing the same quantities of thermal and electrical energy in trigeneration, compared to separate production. As a result of the project implementation, savings in primary energy consumption of over 20% were recorded.
overall efficiency of energy production higher than in the case of separate production – gross overall efficiency of the installation exceeding 85%.
reducing pollutant emissions corresponding to the amount of saved fuel – reducing CO2 emissions, depending on the produced electrical energy, by over 1500 tons/year.
increasing energy efficiency throughout the chain: resources, production, distribution, consumption.

The results obtained as a result of the investment are:

reduction of greenhouse gases. Estimated annual decrease in greenhouse gases of 10,665.41 equivalent tons of CO2/year.
installed capacity in high-efficiency cogeneration: 16.63 MW.
annual quantity of emissions reduced as a result of energy production in cogeneration: 10,663.3 equivalent tons of CO2/year.
annual savings of primary energy obtained through high-efficiency cogeneration: 4,541 thousand tep/year.
contribution to the POIM target: 232 thousand tep/year (2023) – 1.96%.

Project co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Large Infrastructure Operational Program 2014-2020.
