In August 2021 MuchBetterbegana 3-year sponsorship with the Spanish Sports Club, Real Betis, as their official e-wallet provider. This multi-year contract provides sponsorship support across 5 of the Real Betis leagues – the men’s football, futsal, basketball, eSports, and women’s football teams. The MuchBetter logo is showcased on the shorts of the first men’s football team and in a prominent position on the Cream Real Betis eSports team shirt.

As part of MuchBetter’s role as the official e-wallet provider of Real Betis; they have created an ecosystem of partners to collaborate expertise and knowledge to provide venue access and contactless payments with the world’s first all-in-one device.

This partnership includes four key stakeholders, each having a crucial contribution towards this world-first technology.

Real Betis is the heart and soul of the partnership, with its passionate fan base, stadium, and much-loved and historic brand.

DIGISEQ, a high-tech solutions provider, is the nerve centre behind the partnership with tokenisation and the provisioning platform that makes the fob operate, without requiring batteries, Wi-Fi or using cellular data allowances.

LaLiga, the Spanish football league, was a key partner in testing and optimising the solution for access to their network of stadiums and providing the unique ticketing data.

From the beginning, MuchBetter and Real Betis recognised the potential of this powerful partnership. Through a committed project team, MuchBetter remained focused on producing and delivering an incredible solution to significantly enhance the user experience for Real Betis fans.

The fob, now live and being used by Real Betis fans, uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. It stores season ticket data digitally and securely and gives fans access to Estadio Benita Villamarín. The fob, supported by the MuchBetter e-wallet, is also a contactless payment device widely accepted wherever the Mastercard® and contactless payment symbol is displayed.

The primary audience for the revolutionary fob is the Real Betis fans who passionately support the club. Also referred to as “Beticos”, they are a passionate and loyal fan base who like to show their support and allegiance in everything they do; wearing the club’s green and white colours alongside proudly using their world-first Real Betis branded fob every day and most especially on game days to enter the stadium.

The Real Betis fob was first launched in March 2022 and has since gained significant traction in the first wave release, using it to gain access to home games. From August 2022 they will be offered as an additional add-on to season ticket holders when renewing their subscription for 2022-23 season.

Looking into future seasons, MuchBetter will evolve and broaden the use of world-first wearables technology by enabling Real Betis fans to use their exclusive fob at away matches as well as home – and allow visiting fans to access the stadium in the same way, as if they had a season ticket for a visiting team.

The Real Betis fob solves a specific pain point for Betis fans who either carry their traditional physical season tickets or use a cumbersome mobile phone scanning solution which slowed access at the turnstiles, especially for families and larger groups. The fob now allows fans to leave their wallets and cash at home and tap safely and quickly into the stadium. If the fob is lost, it can be disabled via the MuchBetter e-wallet, and a new fob can be purchased. This reduces the need to bring multiple items to a match and increases safety and security, with the fob reducing the risk of tickets being stolen and used fraudulently.

The fob doesn’t require a battery to work and can be used for seamless entry into the Estadio Benito Villamarínstadium and to pay contactlessly at games, or at bars on the way to the game, saving money and resources and minimising risk of human error.

This pioneering partnership has enabled MuchBetter to develop and enhance our payment fob devices to be a multi-functional, contactless ticketing device, that grants fob holders entry to venues with just a simple tap. This ultimately enables a streamlined experience on-site as well as a more efficient and simple way for fans to manage tickets and entertainment administration.
