More than 4 out of 10 Romanian employees (44 percent) claim they were victims of sexual harassment at work, according to a new study released by local recruitment platform BestJobs.

The study shows that 44 percent of Romanian employees felt sexually harassed at work at least once throughout their careers, but four out of five persons affected did not report the incidents of their colleagues or superiors, preferring to suffer harassment or leave the company.

Most of those who say they felt sexually harassed at work are women (86 percent), and 56 percent of them say they have gone through such a situation at least three times, while about 12 percent say they are constantly feeling sexually harassed.

For half of those who did not report the incidents, the main argument for deciding to hide the situation was that they had no evidence, while a third of them did not want to be perceived as employees -problem, the remaining 17 percent fearing not to lose their job.

However, those who have chosen to report the incident have complained to their immediate superior, the chief of the aggressor, the HR department, or the legal department, according to the study.
