Sameday reports 11% revenue growth in Q1 2023

The courier company Sameday, a leader in the out-of-home delivery segment and one of the main players in the courier market, announces an increase in revenue of 11% in the first quarter of 2023, compared to the interval January-March 2022.


The positive development goes beyond the market dynamics and is driven by constant investments in technology and in the focus that Sameday had on developing a service ecosystem aligned with the needs of the online stores. An additional point of growth is the increase in buyers interest in easy box delivery.

Continuing the positive trend of the last years, Sameday ended 2022 with a revenue increase of 23% compared to the previous year. The total company revenue for this period was 736 mil. Ron in Romania, respectively 833 mil. Ron at group level. For the eighth consecutive year, the Romanian courier company registers double-digit growth in revenue.

In 2022, the entire segment of courier services had an average evolution of approximately 7% compared to the previous year. The triple growth compared to the market average recorded by Sameday and the results reached in the first quarter of 2023 reinforce the status of the courier company with the highest growth dynamics in its activity segment. Considering that over 90% of Sameday deliveries are generated by e-commerce, the positive evolution of the company shows that a growing number of online stores trust the services of the courier that introduced delivery to easy box in Romania.

This is how our partners develop, and Sameday evolves along with them. Last year we exceeded the results of 2020, the turning point for our company, when we saw a 142% increase in revenue. In 2022 we overcame these results with 84%.  All in all, despite the uncertain economic context, this year’s premises appear to be favorable. As ever before, we intend to approach the next period with agility and courage. We are already a mature company and our focus will remain the consolidation of operations in the country and in the region and the optimization of the services offered to online stores and consumers,” declares Lucian Baltaru, CEO Sameday Group.


Investing in success

In the last two years, the company directed over 500 mil. Ron in developing operational capacity and creating delivery services facilitated by technology. The value of Sameday investments in 2022 exceeded the amount of 150 mil. Ron, only in Romania. The most important investment directions concerned the expansion of the easy box network, improving the sorting and delivery technology and creating new software developments.

Constant investments in the easy box delivery solution involved both software optimizations and network expansion. Sameday operates 4720 easy boxes regionally, out of which over 3800 are located in Romania. In cities across the country, the average distance a customer has to travel by foot to the nearest easy box is of 5 minutes. Thus, due to proximity, control over one’s own time and the speed of the locker delivery process, the easy box delivery method has outranked delivery to fix addresses in the preferences of urban consumers. According to a research commissioned in May by Sameday, the preference for easy box is 48%, compared to 28% for door-to-door delivery.

The consolidation of the easy box network remains a strategic direction for Sameday in 2023. This is aligned with the company’s objective to improve the customer experience, optimize the quality of its services and enhance support the development of online stores. Currently, according to the same study, 68% of online store customers prioritize merchants that offer easy box delivery.

Ecosystem of Businesses Growth

Sameday will maintain the investment level again this year in order to strengthen the delivery ecosystem in Romania and in the region. The company aims to create delivery solutions that boost the growth of online stores. In the context of the atypical dynamics of the economic environment, the Romanian courier company develops solutions to support online businesses and increase the satisfaction of end consumers.

Every year we strive to improve services for the benefit of our customers, offering consumers hassle-free delivery and control and flexibility for online stores. In this sense, we started 2023 with new services, which focus on the satisfaction of online merchants and consumers who choose us. For business customers, we have launched the personal handover service in easy box, through which they have better control over delivery times and the convenience of choosing the moment of delivery of the parcel, in any easy box in the Sameday network. This product is built to support the growth of scale-up businesses,” says Elena Stoica, Marketing Chief & Customer Experience Officer.

88% of online store customers consider it important to have more return options, according to a study commissioned by the courier company. That’s why in March, Sameday launched returns in easy box for all online retailers, offering free returns until the end of the year for stores that activate the service this summer.

Sameday encourages Romanian online stores to develop internationally. The operations that the company opened in 2020 in Hungary and in 2022 in Bulgaria enable the creation of an open and digitally integrated delivery area.
