Romania’s industrial production rose 1.2 pct y/y in May, turnover up 11 pct

Romania’s industrial production increased by 1.2 percent year-on-year in May, the slowest pace in the last year due to the decline of energy production and mining sector, while the turnover index of industry rose 11.4 percent, National Institute of Statistics (INS) data showed on Thursday.

Compared with April 2018, the industrial production decreased by 0.4 percent as series adjusted by number of working days and seasonality.

Production in the manufacturing sector, the largest sector of Romania’s industry, grew by 2 percent year-on-year, mining and quarrying declined by 3.5 percent, while energy output decreased by 2.2 percent in April, according to official data.

The slowdown of manufacturing production had a limited impact on turnover of Romania’s industry, which climbed 11.4 percent year-on-year in May.

In the first five months of 2018, the industrial production increased by 4 percent year-on-year and industry’s turnover rose by 13.5 percent.

The new orders in manufacturing increased by 16.3 percent year-on-year in May 2018.
