Romanian tourists spend the least in the EU per holiday trip, prefer domestic destinations

Romanian tourists spend the least amount of money per holiday trip in the European Union, and they prefer domestic destinations, according to Eurostat.

In 2017, the average amount spent by Romanian tourists during their holiday trips was EUR 135, below the amounts spent by Czech tourists (EUR 140), Bulgarian (EUR 153) and Portuguese tourists (EUR 156).

In the EU, Luxembourgish residents spent the most per holiday trip (EUR 769) in 2017, followed by residents of Austria (EUR 641) and Malta (EUR 633).

On average in the EU, residents spent around EUR 377 per holiday trip in 2017.

The Romanian tourists spent a total amount of EUR 2.43 billion for their holiday trips in 2017, mainly on domestic trips (EUR 1.9 billion).
