American company Herman Miller is the second largest office furniture manufacturer in the world, with a USD 2.3 billion turnover, second after Steelcase, who makes 2.6 billion. In Europe, Herman Miller reaches around USD 85 million of USD 170 million in the EMEA region. In Romania, the company sold around 7,000 chairs.

The company builds 7 million office chairs per year globally, and they are sold in 84 countries. Although it is the second company in terms of turnover, Herman Miller is considered the first in innovation, scoring first in Innovation, People Management, Use of Corporate Assets, Social Responsibility, and Quality of Products/Services, according to CNN Money.

”Herman Miller doesn’t launch any products if it doesn’t have at least a component that involves innovation,” says Alex Didea, the CEO of Workspaces Studio, the American company’s Romanian distributor.

Since 2015, when Workspace Studio became an authorized dealer of Herman Miller in Romania, it has sold over 7,000 Herman Miller chairs, which are recognized worldwide for the ergonomics and futuristic design. The Aeron chair, created in 1994 by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick for Herman Miller and remastered in 2016, became the best-selling office chair model of all time.

Living office

The company launched the concept of Living Office, and they say it is about feeling good when you come to work and is trying to compensate the fact that even if work has changed, most offices haven’t.

Herman Miller officials say they are trying to humanise the workplace, and create a working neighborhood uniquely tailored for everyone. People can freely and intuitively cycle from individual work to collaborative group and social activities.
