Some 300,000 photo cameras have been sold last year in Romnaia, according to Victor Matei, partner channel manager at Canon Business Solutions. “The market is polarizing. On one hand there are the budget products, which represent the largest volumes and the other hand there are the products that use the latest technologies – such as the DLSR cameras, ultra zoom or fashion compact cameras such as the SX, G or Ixus series,” he added.

Photo cameras represent the company’s most popular and also best sold products in Romania. In the first half of last year Canon had a market share of about 40 – 45 percent on the professional and semi-professional photo cameras segment, said Matei. For compact digital cameras the company’s market share reached 15 percent.

“From the data we have received from our partners we estimate an increase of 2 percent of our market share for compact cameras and about 5 percent for DSLR, which represent our focus. As for print, the market share for inkjet prints amounts to 37 percent for final consumers,” he added.

Canon Romania has managed to grow its business last year and estimates that the upward trend will continue in 2012. “We have grown on all segments last year. However, the growth was higher for business printing products against financial difficulties, which have generated the need to cut costs and a better management of printing,” he concluded.
