The number of companies with foreign capital that were newly established in the first quarter of 2019 in Romania increased by 9.1 percent year-on-year, to 1,496 units, according to data provided by the National Trade Registry Office (ONRC) and reported by Agerpres.
The new companies had a total social capital of USD 3.94 million, a 27.3 percent growth compared to January-March 2018.
Between 1991 and 2018, there were 221,334 companies established that had foreign participation in capital, and the total subscribed social capital for these firms exceeded USD 63.1 billion.
On March 31, 2019, there were 222,830 foreign capital firms in Romania, most of which (47,709) had Italian capital. But the largest capital value by country of origin was for companies with Dutch capital – USD 13 billion in 5,302 companies.
The top 50 of the countries of residence of investors in foreign capital companies included 20 states outside of Europe, the top three of which were the United States (7,720 companies with total capital of USD 1.12 billion), Turkey (15,524 companies with total capital of USD 730,8 million) and China (12,645 companies with total capital of 406.3 million).
