MiR, one of the largest global suppliers of mobile robots: In Romania, we recorded in 2021 sales four times higher than in 2019

Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR), one of the largest global suppliers of autonomous mobile industrial robots (Autonomous Mobile Robots / AMRs), registered in 2021 in Romania sales four times higher than in 2019. Also, in Central and Eastern Europe, sales were 52% higher than in 2020.

The number of industrial robots in Romania is estimated at 4,400 units, according to the latest data from the Industrial Federation of Robotics (IFR); however, this number doesn’t include mobile robots, a fast-growing segment.

The Romanian IT infrastructure favors the adoption of robots

The companies that mainly generate the demand belong to automotive, FMCG, logistics, and electronics. The elements that motivate the investments in robotization include: process stability, increased productivity, relocation of human resources to higher value-added activities, and an improved working environment.

“A specific element for Romania is the excellent IT infrastructure that allows the implementation of the latest technologies in the field of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and solutions that will enable optimizing performance based on advanced analysis of data obtained from sensors. Three main aspects influence investments in industrial robots: added value for the business, the lack of workforce, and the level of digitalization. The old processes are outdated by the complexity of the distribution chains, and companies need to rely on new knowledge and technology. For these reasons, Romanian companies will accelerate the robotization of intralogistics processes, which will generate a sustained market growth,” says Alberto Botarelli, Area Sales Manager for Eastern Europe, Mobile Industrial Robots.

Growing sales of autonomous mobile robots in Central and Eastern Europe

In 2021, MiR registered a 42% increase in the global sales of autonomous mobile robots, and in December alone, the company delivered 300 units to the customers. The level reached in December was a record for the whole year, especially in the context of the global semiconductor crisis. The increase is based on the use of new models of robots dedicated to transporting items in production facilities, warehouses, and logistics companies, including in Romania.

“The financial data for 2021 shows that in the Central and Eastern European region, sales increased by 52%. In recent years, we have seen significant progress in this market. The partners in these countries made a substantial contribution to this success: they are very professional, they have expanded their client portfolio, and managed to deliver increasingly complex projects. Obviously, with partners such as Alfa Test, we can offer a simple and efficient way to robotize intra-logistics processes to customers from very diverse segments,” adds Alberto Botarelli.

Alfa Test – among the best partners

MiR recognized the Romanian company Alfa Test as one of the three best-performing partners in Central and Eastern Europe.

The “Excellent Partner +” recognition rewards sales results, technical knowledge, and the quality of services provided to customers and has been received by only 15 companies globally. This is the first time Alfa Test has been recognized as an “Excellent Partner +”. This recognition shows both the performance of the Timisoara company and the evolution of the local market of autonomous industrial robots.

Founded in 2002, Alfa Test has relevant experience in mechatronic cell production and the integration of industrial robots into production environments. The company based in Timisoara has been a MiR partner since 2017.

“The interest of Romanian customers for autonomous mobile robots is constantly growing, and Alfa Test has the necessary engineering skills to robotize the most diverse intra-logistics processes. Due to the cooperation with MiR and the industrial projects carried out in Western Romania, we delivered many robots and fleets with a significant number of robots to our customers. I am sure that more and more companies will increase the degree of automation using MiR robots and that this year’s results will be just as good”, considers Paul Olariu, Sales Manager for MiR robots at Alfa Test.
