Focus Sat announces the launch of the new exclusive Canal+ Original production Paris Police 1905 (season 2 of the French noir series Paris Police 1900), which will be available in the Focus Sat App and on Focus Sat TV (Monday and Thursday, from 22:00).
The new episodes continue the story of Paris Police 1900 (available on the Focus Sat App and broadcast on Focus Sat TV channel in October 2021). In the first season, the action takes place in 1899, when the body of a woman is discovered in the Seine and the young and ambitious detective Antoine Jouin (Jérémie Laheurte, from La vie d’Adèle) leads the investigation. Created by the famous French graphic novel author Fabien Nury (Tyler Cross: Black Rock, I Am Legion, Il était une fois en France), the series was based on real historical events and figures. Now the story continues with 6 more episodes, which begin on Christmas Eve, 1904.
In Paris Police 1905 a new unidentified body is discovered in the French capital, this time in the Bois de Boulogne park. Inspector Antoine Jouin is again on the case, which will send him deep into a secret area of the city: the woods on the outskirts, where the darkest desires come to life and where all the criminal figures in Paris feel themselves at home. In the meantime the chief of police, Louis Lépine (Marc Barbé, from La môme), is forced to clean the streets of Paris of all its prostitutes and is seriously considering resigning, while being suspected of having a mistress. The courtesan Marguerite “Meg” Steinheil (Evelyne Brochu, from Orphan Black) is now running a small criminal organization (the city’s most upscale gambling ring), enjoys Lépine’s protection and uses her husband’s art shows as cover for her illegal profession. All these characters are once again drawn into a whirlwind of vice, corruption and blackmail, where everyone has something to hide. Including the police!
The new episodes are directed by Julien Despaux (Black Spot) and Frédéric Balekdjian (winner of the Manfred-Salzgeber Award, at the 2005 Berlin Film Festival, for Les mauvais joueurs). The sets were designed by Pierre Quefféléan (winner of the César Award 2018, for “best-set design”, for the movie Au revoir là-haut). The costume designer is the same Anaïs Romand (winner of 3 César Awards for costume design), the wardrobe being now focused on winter outfit as the story takes place around Christmas.
Far from the idyllic image of La Belle Époque (1871-1914), the series Paris Police 1905 tells a story filled with vices and sinners, with a well-constructed plot and rigorously documented.
